A side-release buckle is made up of two halves that securely click together. You squeeze the sides in to release and separate the two buckle parts. This versatile piece of hardware can be used as a bag closure or for 2-piece adjustable straps that can come apart.
It is also referred to as: adjustable slider, triglide, adjuster or adjustable buckle
Size Matters
Single and dual adjust side-release buckles are sold by width, commonly ranging from 19 to 38mm (3/4″ to 1 1/2 inches).
When you buy a side-release buckle, the size that is indicated refers to the inner width of the adjuster or strap feed bar. This is the most important measurement since you have to match it to the width of the webbing or strap you intend to use with it.
Your webbing or strap should be the same width as or slightly narrower than the adjuster or strap feed bar.

Common Styles
Side-release buckles come in many shapes, sizes, and materials, as well as single or dual adjust versions. Single adjust has an adjustable feed bar on end and a fixed strap feed bar on the other. If you only ever need to adjust one side, as when using it for a bag closure or quick release strap, select a single adjust buckle. Dual adjust have adjusters at both ends. Select this option if you need strap length adjustability at both ends of the buckle.
While most commonly available in plastic, they are also available in metal with various finishes for a higher-end look and feel.
